Stop 1: Henry Cowell Redwoods State Park – Redwood Grove Loop Trail

My first stop of the day was Henry Cowell Redwoods State Park to walk the A Romantic Stroll on the Redwood Grove Loop Trail. This short and easy trail is perfect for a peaceful stroll among the towering redwoods, and it’s one of my go-to spots for some quiet time. But as fate would have it, my peaceful walk soon became another magical encounter.

As I neared the end of the loop, I witnessed something magical—a bride, radiant in white, running toward the entrance of the trail, her gown trailing behind her. The contrast of her ethereal dress against the towering redwoods was like something out of a storybook. I couldn’t help but smile at this unexpected, enchanting scene, wondering about the story behind this special moment. She seemed in a rush, and though I would’ve loved to know more, I didn’t want to intrude. I thought, “I won’t get another chance like this for a while.” Little did I know, I was wrong.

Stop 2: Wilder Ranch State Park – Wilder Beach Overlook

After the Redwood Grove Loop Trail, I headed to Wilder Beach Overlook: A Romantic Santa Cruz getaway, a favorite for its scenic coastal views and peaceful trails. As I made my way to the Wilder Beach Overlook, I was fully expecting to spend the evening soaking in the beauty of the ocean, watching the sunset, and maybe catching sight of some wildlife. As I approached the overlook, I noticed a small group dressed to the nines—a few men in tuxedos and elegantly dressed family members. Moments later, I saw her: another bride, standing at the cliff’s edge, the ocean stretching out behind her.

I couldn’t help but pause and take in the moment. The way the sunlight hit the waves, with her standing in all her bridal glory, made the entire scene feel like something out of a movie. Clearly, they had chosen this spot to get married, and who could blame them? The rugged cliffs and expansive ocean views made for the perfect setting. Oh, and did I mention a beautiful SUPERMOON behind them as well? This time, I couldn’t resist. With the sunset fading fast, I approached the couple and respectfully asked for a photo. Though the moment was fleeting, they graciously agreed. To Luke and Mona, though I couldn’t stay long or grab your socials, I want to congratulate you. Your spontaneous, love-filled moment was truly unforgettable.

Love Is in the Air

Seeing not one but two brides on two different trails reminded me just how much love and romance can be found in unexpected places. In their unique settings—the coastal cliffs and the ancient redwoods—both brides added a special kind of beauty to the day. It was almost as if nature itself was celebrating with them.

Tale of Rings

Before we even stepped onto the trail, we came across the Tale of Rings—a fascinating display of a redwood tree’s rings. We were lucky enough to meet a kind stranger, Edgar, who explained that the color of the rings indicates the season they formed in, with darker rings marking rainy seasons. He even shared that the bright yellow bay leaves scattered on the ground can be used in cooking or tea. He encouraged us to break one in half and smell the refreshing scent straight from nature!

The Trail Experience

As soon as we stepped onto the trail, the towering redwoods immediately captured our attention, creating a sense of awe. The loop is short and easy, making it the perfect spot for a relaxed, hand-in-hand stroll with a loved one. Sunlight filtered through the massive trees, casting a warm, golden glow over the path, while the fresh air filled our lungs—exactly what we needed to truly unwind.

We strolled along the way, stopping at the numbered sites to fully take in the beauty and tranquility of the forest. The peaceful atmosphere is truly ideal for reconnecting and leaving behind the noise of daily life, letting you and your significant other simply enjoy each other’s company, surrounded by nature’s towering giants. To top it all off, as we neared the end of our loop, we spotted a beautiful bride rushing to the heart of the trail for her picture-perfect moment. It’s easy to see why couples choose this magical place as the backdrop for wedding photos—its beauty is simply unforgettable.

I’ve spent a lot of time visiting nearby beaches like Panther Beach and Davenport, but when I finally made it to Wilder Beach Overlook, I was blown away. How did I miss this all these years?

I knew this spot was great for couples when I saw Luke and Mona get married the same day I visited. If someone can tie the knot here, you can definitely take a romantic walk with your partner. I almost want to rename this place “Couples’ Landing” because when I visited, it seemed like every pair in Santa Cruz was watching the sunset together at this very spot. If you and your partner are looking for a place that combines natural beauty and tranquility, Wilder Beach Overlook should be on your list.

The Perfect Spot for Romance

Located within Wilder Ranch State Park, this overlook draws you in with its sweeping views of the Pacific Ocean. The walk from the parking lot is short, and soon enough, you’re sitting on a bench looking out at waves crashing against dramatic cliffs. Unlike the crowded spots in Santa Cruz, this place feels secluded and peaceful.

You can spend the afternoon watching seabirds gliding over the water or simply sitting together and taking in the panoramic views. But don’t stop there! Keep walking along the trail, and you’ll discover an open view of the ocean with space to sit and enjoy the scenery. Trust me—come at sunset. The sky bursts into hues of pink, orange, and purple, turning it into the perfect backdrop for a romantic evening.

Picnic with a View

Why not pack a picnic and make a day of it? The grassy areas near the overlook are perfect for spreading out a blanket and enjoying some wine and cheese while you watch the waves roll in. It’s such a simple but special way to add romance to your visit.

I recommend grabbing snacks, a sandwich, and a bottle of wine from Zoccoli’s Delicatessen in downtown Santa Cruz. It is the perfect fuel for a relaxing day. I’d recommend stopping there for picnic supplies before heading out. I went on October 17th, a super full moon. It was absolutely stunning seeing the moon and the sun flirt with one another for a short while as the sunset. This is a spot to enjoy quiet moments with your partner while taking in one of the most beautiful views around.

Wildlife and Birdwatching

For couples who love nature, Wilder Beach Overlook is a great spot for birdwatching. The nearby Wilder Beach Preserve is a sanctuary for species like the endangered Western Snowy Plover, and we were lucky enough to spot a few during our visit. Make sure you bring binoculars because there’s a lot of wildlife to enjoy.

Depending on the time of year, you might even catch a glimpse of migrating whales or dolphins. This mix of wildlife, ocean views, and tranquility really makes the overlook a fantastic destination for couples who enjoy nature.

Though the beach itself is closed to protect wildlife, the overlook gives you a perfect view of this untouched beauty. Wilder Beach Overlook is just a few miles north of Santa Cruz, within Wilder Ranch State Park. It’s easy to get to from Highway 1, and parking is available right at the park’s main entrance. A short, scenic walk from the parking lot will lead you to the overlook and coastal trails.

There’s a small entrance fee, but it’s absolutely worth it for the breathtaking views and peaceful atmosphere. Make sure to bring comfortable shoes, and don’t forget your camera—you’ll want to capture every moment!

Spina Farms is the perfect destination for couples who want to enjoy a beautiful day in the countryside, filled with seasonal beauty and fun activities. Whether you’re celebrating a special occasion or just looking for a relaxing weekend date, the farm offers a rustic and romantic atmosphere that sets the stage for an unforgettable outing. Here is your guide to creating romantic memories at Spina Farm.

Prep Tips:

• Clothing:
  • Once you drive into the parking lot, it can get pretty dusty so be sure to wear some close-toed shoes that you don’t mind getting a little dirty. Even some cute leather boots will do! 
  • Matching plaid shirts or color-coordinated outfits go perfectly with the fall theme if you want to take cute pics w/ bae
  • Layers! Check the weather when you go, it can be hot during the day and get cooler at night, so be sure to dress according to the weather.

• Time: If you’re going on a weekend, be prepared for long lines and extra traffic.
  • Tip- Show up early for shorter lines on the main attractions.
• Prices:
  • Check their website for prices on all activities, I do recommend getting the $40 park pass for all attractions. (Each attraction is $8 without the park pass). The recommended attractions for a fun-filled date night would be:
    • Train Ride
    • Hay Ride
    • Corn Maze
    • Pumpkin Blasters
    • Cow Train
      • this is an extra one you might as well do since you have the park pass.
  • You can also expect to spend around $20/30 per person for food and treats. Parking on weekends is $20.

The Pumpkin Patch

One of the highlights of Spina Farms is the beautiful setup of the pumpkin patch. With the pumpkin pyramid and the photo ops provided, this is the perfect opportunity for a photo shoot.

Date Night Tip- Be sure to grab a pumpkin to paint or carve for a night of more fun!

A Scenic Train Ride

What’s more romantic than a train ride through scenic farmland? Spina Farms offers an adorable train that winds through sunflower fields, corn mazes, and colorful Dino displays. The gentle chug of the train and the sweeping views are perfect for taking in the beauty of nature and each other’s company. Cuddle up and enjoy.

Hayride and Corn Maze

If you’re a couple that loves exploring and maybe even enjoys taking on a challenge, the corn maze is a must. Get lost together in the towering stalks of corn, working as a team to navigate your way out. Or, for a more relaxing moment, get on the hayride and see the art displays in the open sunflower fields.

Pumpkin Blasters and Cow Ride

Shoot a pumpkin at the right target and watch it blast! You only get 3 tries, so if you think you can hit your mark, go for it. The cowride seems to be designed for kids but it’s a cute out in the open ride if you don’t mind your knees tucked in!

Seasonal Treats

Although there are food trucks to grab a quick bite, no trip to Spina Farms is complete without indulging in some delicious seasonal treats. Cozy up with a warm cup of coffee or share a pumpkin-spiced treat from the farm’s food trucks. As the day cools, these comforting bites are the perfect way to end your adventure. The horchata and pumpkin spice latte, “Fall Harvest”, is a seasonal favorite.

A Perfect Sunset Ending

As the day winds down, don’t miss the chance to watch the sunset over the sprawling fields. Whether you’re sitting on a haystack, taking in the view, or snuggled up on a blanket, it’s the perfect end to a perfect day.

Date Night Tip– buy a pot of marigolds or some sunflowers at the boo-tique to liven up the home. Flowers are always a romantic gesture for your boo!
